Recommended AudioBook: And Away ... by Bob Mortimer.
Audio Book. Writing. Teesside. Comedy. Bob Mortimer. The Linny. Catterick, The Weekenders.
First off, right, Bob Mortimer is from the same neck of the woods as me, and he’s around the same age as me. We’ve even worked in similar areas, welfare rights. So, I was sure to get some pleasure from this book. And I bloody well did!
I’ve also been a fan of most of his turns since he played the soppy social worker on the Jonathan Ross show in the ‘80s, although my favourites are Catterick and The Weekenders. As he himself admits, he was rubbish in the remake of Randall and Hopkirk, mind you, but you can’t have everything,
Also, this is the first Audiobook that I’ve listened to all the way through - I really do have a very short attention span. Bob is not a professional narrator for sure - there are a few fumbles and stumbles along the way- but he does have a lovely, warm voice.
Anyway, I loved And Away … It’s a veritable joy. Funny, moving and illuminating. Especially the stuff about his youth. Very highly recommended.
