Sophie Huber. Harry Dean Stanton, Documentary. Recommended Film. David Lynch. Wim Wenders.
The late, great actor and musician Harry Dean Stanton had a face so lived in even squatters wouldn’t stay there. But with a career that lasted over sixty years and encompassed more than 200 films, he certainly wore his full and rich life in the lines of his face. Although he was best known as a scene stealing character actor in films such as REPO MAN, COOL HAND LUKE and ALIEN, he eventually took the lead role in Wim Wenders’ PARIS TEXAS. He was, almost inevitably. magnificent. In 2012, Sophie Huber made a documentary about the man and it’s really quite brilliant. Here’s the blurb and the trailer:
‘An iconic actor in his intimate moments, with film clips from some of his 250 films and his own heart-breaking renditions of American folk songs. Lensed in colour and b/w by Seamus McGarvey, the film explores the actor's enigmatic outlook on his life, his unexploited talents as a musician, and includes scenes with David Lynch, Wim Wenders, Sam Shepard, Kris Kristofferson and Debbie Harry.’
