Screenplay: Red Esperanto by Paul D. Brazill
A Case Of Noir. Screenplay. Euro Noir. Gareth Spark. Warsaw. Polski Noir.
The first chapter of my novella A CASE OF NOIR is entitled RED ESPERANTO, and takes place in Warsaw, Poland. A bit back, I adapted it into a short screenplay, with a great, great deal of help from the splendid Gareth Spark.
Anyway, here`s a taste of it, if you fancy a gander:
RED ESPERANTO By Paul D. Brazill
EXT. WARSAW SKYLINE - EVENING FADE IN:
The winter darkness drapes itself over Warsaw’s Aleja Jana Pawla like a shroud, and a sharp sliver of moon slices the night sky. A constellation of neon signs line the bustling avenue: sex shops, peep shows, 24 hour bars, booze shops and kebab shops lead up to The Westin Hotel, with its glass elevator.
INT. TATIANA’S APARTMENT, WARSAW - NIGHT.
LEE CASE (40’s,unshaven, black roll-neck sweater and jeans) rubs a hand across his face. A table beside him is lined with bottles. He gazes at them, then glances at the walls of the apartment and closes his eyes. A flickering light buzzes. He pokes his trembling fingers through a crack in the dusty slat blinds and gazes out.
EXT. WARSAW SKYLINE, WARSAW- NIGHT.
A black taxi jumps a red light and cuts across the road. It narrowly misses a rattling tram. A police car’s siren WAILS. Another cop car joins the chase, quickly overtakes the cab, swerves and screeches to a halt in front of it.
The TAXI DRIVER tries to stop but the taxi skids back across the icy road, just missing another tram. It stops on the pavement outside a garishly painted peepshow.
A tall BLONDE dressed only in red high heels and suspenders looks out of its front door. She sees the police cars and rushes back inside, slamming the door behind her. A massive, BULL-NECKED MAN with a bald head and wearing a black leather jacket gets out of the taxi. He runs towards the front of TATIANA’s apartment block.
A swarm of POLICEMEN swiftly surround him and drag him down onto the snow smothered ground.
